The federal government has tapped former IBM executive Tom Hayes, who helped the telecommunications giant build its massive data center in San Jose, California, to work as its IT chief, the company announced on Tuesday.
Hayes will be a senior vice president at the company’s technology operations, the announcement said.
He previously worked at IBM’s headquarters in the United States.
Haymes, 61, also worked for IBM in India, where he served as the head of the Indian branch of the company.
The announcement comes less than a week after the federal government said it would open up the data center for business.
The decision has come as technology companies are struggling to cope with an unprecedented influx of workers.
